In a city teeming with coffee spots, I actually hopped on the subway to visit Miss Barb’s instead of making the easy trip down the block for my morning fix. This fresh addition to Crown Heights isn't just another coffee shop; it's a soon-to-be wine bar, a cultural hub, and a new neighborhood gem.
Morning Coffee
The coffee here did not disappoint. It was a rich brew with nice mocha/chocolate notes, my favorite type of coffee. I also got to try some gluten-free lemon cake that I never would have eaten if they hadn't given it to me to taste, but it was absolutely delicious (and not just delicious for gluten-free).
Evening Wine
My wife and I are fans of their Wine Down nights, where they, of course, serve wine and often bring in talented local DJs and musicians to highlight. Good times! These special wine nights are the only time they are pouring wine as of this writing, but they are supposed to be uncorking nightly wine service very soon.
A Comfortable Oasis
Miss Barb's isn't just about the coffee and wine; it's about the atmosphere. This cozy spot exudes a chill Caribbean vibe courtesy of its warm, welcoming staff (say hi to Shea and Brandon). It's the kind of place where you feel right at home, whether you're dropping by for a quick coffee or staying late for wine and music.
Pro Tip: After getting your coffee, take a leisurely 15-minute stroll to another Crown Heights hotspot, Agi's Counter, and enjoy brunch or lunch at this Jewish and Eastern European delicatessen restaurant. That's what we did!
Verdict: Go
